Barbara is a local artist who started painting at school in Ireland. At the age of 16 she received an award in the Caltex National Schools’ Competition but she didn’t take up painting again until the mid 1990’s, when she started painting in pastels and acrylics.
When she moved to New Milton in 2004 she joined Marilyn Kendal, where her drawing and watercolour skills were much improved. Wanting to paint in, what was her ‘first love’, pastels, along with other mediums, she attended Daphne Ellman’s classes and workshops. In the past couple of years, she has enjoyed working with Jane Puckering in Sway but now attends Jamel Akib’s workshops in Braishfield, which are great fun and make painting very exhilarating and rewarding, experimenting in new media. She also paints with Bashley Art Club every week.
Barbara has an Art Group at New Milton Memorial Hall, which meets twice a month, when they get together to paint and give each other support. She also paints silk scarves.
In 2009 she won the President’s Prize at the Highcliffe Art Fellowship Exhibition for her pastel painting of ‘Forest Fungi’. She has exhibited and sold at St. Barbs, Lymington, in their Open Exhibitions and also the New Forest Open Exhibition. Barbara exhibits in the Hampshire Open Studios along with 4 other friends.
Barbara is Chairman of Milford Art Group and organised their Exhibition for many years. She is also an active member of Highcliffe Art Fellowship and Ringwood Art Society.
